Why we built it
You bought it for a reason. Nothing has checked that reason since.
Take a position you have held for a year. Before you bought it you did real work: read the filings, formed a view, decided what the company had to do for the investment to make sense. The price has been checked a thousand times since. The reason has not been checked once.
At a fund, checking it is somebody's job. None of it requires unusual talent. It requires somebody whose job it is.
You have the same information they do. What you did not have, until now, is anyone assigned to read it.
Who built it
Solon was built by a team that has worked in investing and investment banking. We had that process at work. Our portfolios did not.
